This event is ideal for children from kindergarten to 4th grade, with children under 13 years old requiring adult accompaniment. Join us for this extraordinary book signing event on March 22, 2024, from 3 PM to 4 PM at Technology Engagement Center (306 Minerva Dr., Murfreesboro, TN 37130), or on March 23, 2024, from 11 AM to Noon at Technology Engagement Center, or March 30, 2024, from 11 AM to Noon at Patterson Park Community Center STEAM Room (521 Mercury Blvd., Murfreesboro, TN 37130) while your children enjoy Easter egg hunts or carnival activities. “A Rainy Day” isn’t just a story; it’s a magical adventure filled with wonder, joy, and heartwarming moments. Follow Emilee, a spirited young girl, as she embarks on an unexpected escapade with her father on a rainy day. Rita Shacklett to be Honored by Town of Smyrna

The Town of Smyrna will honor former Rutherford County Library System Director Rita Shacklett with a Proclamation in recognition of her 48 years of outstanding service to our communities. The public is cordially invited to join in honoring her Tuesday, March 12th at 5 pm. The proclamation will be held in the Town Hall of Smyrna located at 315 S Lowry St. Smyrna, TN. A Murfreesboro native, Rita Shacklett attended story times at Linebaugh Library as a child. She has been with the system since starting as a library clerk after receiving her MLS degree from Georgia Peabody College for Teachers, later moving on to cataloger, assistant director, and director.

RCLS DIRECTOR RETIRES AFTER 48 YEARS

Marc Anthony said, “If you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.” Having worked over48 years for the Rutherford County Library System (RCLS), Rita Shacklett, will be retiring the end ofFebruary 2024.  Ms. Shacklett has been with RCLS for since October 1975 and has served as the Directorof Libraries since December 2008. Ms. Shacklett is a Murfreesboro native and attended story times at Linebaugh as a child. She is agraduate of Central High School and received her B.A. degree from MTSU in English and History. Shegraduated with her MLS degree from George Peabody College for Teachers.  Upon graduation, she washired by RCLS’s second director, Briley Adcock, and has been with the system since that time starting asa library clerk and moving on to cataloger, assistant director, and director. After spending over half of her life and career with RCLS, Ms. Shacklett is looking forward to spendingtime with her husband, children, and four granddaughters. She also plans to do some traveling andknock a few things off her bucket list. “It’s with mixed emotions that I make this decision, but it’s timeto turn the reins over to someone else to take RCLS into the future,” said Ms. Shacklett.
