Effective July 1, 2025, Rutherford County Library System will no longer offer access to the digital streaming service Hoopla. This difficult decision comes as a result of budgetary constraints that necessitate a re-evaluation of digital resource subscriptions.
RCLS understands that many patrons have enjoyed the wide variety of content available on Hoopla,
including movies, television shows, music, and comics. The “pay-per-use” model of Hoopla, while offering
immediate access without waitlists, has become financially unsustainable at this time.
“While we are saying goodbye to Hoopla, we want to remind our patrons that they will have robust access to a vast collection of ebooks and e-audiobooks through the Libby app,” says Technical Services Manager Lori Lewis. “We are grateful for our membership in the state library consortium, which provides our patrons with access to a substantial collection of digital titles purchased at the state level in addition to our Advantage Collection, and we will continue to provide the best possible access to our community
within our means.”
What this means for you:
- Continued Access to Digital Reading: You can continue to borrow and enjoy thousands of
ebooks and e-audiobooks using your library card through the Libby app. - Access to State-Purchased Titles: As part of the state consortium, you have access to a larger
collection of digital books than our library could provide on its own. - A User-Friendly Platform: Libby offers a seamless and user-friendly experience for borrowing
and reading digital content.
Library staff are available to assist any patrons who need help getting started with or using the Libby app.
If you need assistance, do not hesitate to visit your local library information desk, call, or visit the RCLS website, rclstn.org.
