As we head into the Holiday season, the staff of the Rutherford County Library System is excited to help two of Rutherford County’s local food banks. Beginning November 1, food donation boxes can be found at all seven branches of the library. Locations in Murfreesboro and Smyrna will be collecting for Nourish Food Banks while the Eagleville Bicentennial Library location will be collecting for the Eagleville Community Center.

With the suspension of SNAP and other benefits caused by the ongoing government shutdown, new Library Director Luanne James felt that it was time to expand on a program piloted by Linebaugh branch manager Mindy Barrett and Smyrna branch manager Cassandra Taylor. Joining the two initial branches will be Eagleville Bicentennial Library, the Historic Research Center, Myrtle Glanton Lord Public Library, the Technology Engagement Center, and the Bookmobile.
Patrons are encouraged to bring non-perishable items to their favorite branch (see accepted items listed below). All contributions will go to one of RCLS’ food bank partners and then directly to local families in need. Together, we can fight hunger and spread kindness this season.
