Library visitors can explore the Daily News Journal archives online at any branch
Rutherford County Library System (RCLS) is pleased to announce in-library online access to the Daily News Journal (DNJ) archive through a new partnership with Newspapers.com (part of the Ancestry.com company) and Gannett (the owner of the DNJ).
November 2017, a project coordinator from Newspapers.com contacted System Director Rita Shacklett to see if the library would be willing to loan its microfilm reels of the paper for digitizing.
“We were thrilled to have the opportunity to include back issues RCLS has on microfilm in digital format with Newspapers.com. This gives our patrons and many others access to the history in our community,” says RCLS Director Rita Shacklett.
Newspapers.com is the largest online newspaper archive consisting of 300+ million pages of historical newspapers from 7,500+ newspapers from around the United States and beyond. Newspapers provide a unique view of the past and can help us understand and connect with the people, events and attitudes of an earlier time.
