We meet once a month from 10-11am in the 1st floor clubroom on select Tuesdays in partnership the University of Tennessee’s Agricultural Extension branch to introduce kids aged 8-12 to a hands-on experience in culinary exploration and nutrition. \nThis event runs concurrently with the All-Ages Storytime in the children’s area on the 1st floor so that older siblings have the option to enjoy more advanced programming. DESCRIPTION:This year\, Reading is SNOW much fun with the Walter King Hoover Winter Reading Challenge! This program is designed to encourage life-long reading habits. Registration for the Reading Program goes live on 1/25/2026\, and you can begin submitting your reviews from February 1 to March 14. \n  \nAll participants who submit 6 reviews will receive a Winter Reading Completion Prize\, as well as 1 Grand Prize entry. For 1 additional entry into the Grand Prize drawing\, read an additional 5 titles.  The Grand Prize Reader will receive a gift card awarded by the Friends of Smyrna Library in addition to the entries into the grand prize drawing. There are also prizes for the Silver & Bronze Readers. Read six books in six consecutive weeks\, and log your reading progress. Each book is worth 100 points; when you earn 600 points\, you’ll receive a completion certificate you can print and share! Participants can register through ReadSquared by selecting the Program Title or emailing smyrnareadingprogram@rclstn.org. You can also pick up a review worksheet at the library and turn in your 6 hand-written reviews by 3/14/2026.

DESCRIPTION:Get into the Halloween spirit by joining our Annual Pumpkin Painting Party! Bring your own pumpkin and get creative with your designs! Decorate your pumpkin for fun or make it book-themed to enter into our Pumpkin Painting Contest. \nContest rules are listed below: \n\n\n\nChoose your favorite children’s or YA book and decorate a REAL pumpkin to make it look like a character or theme of that book.\nYou can create your pumpkin using any materials you want. NO CARVING is allowed. (They just won’t last!) Pumpkins will be displayed on the Easy shelving so please make sure your entry is stable.\nPumpkin turn in dates are October 18th following the Pumpkin Painting Party through October 20th.\nAll eligible entries will be judged by patrons. The winners in each age group will receive bragging rights and a prize! Winners will be announced at the Haunted Hijinks event on October 25th and on the RCLS Facebook page on October 27th.\nPlease pick up your pumpkin entries by October 31st at 5 pm. Take them home to share with friends and neighbors for Halloween!
