Library Assistant - Part Time - Smyrna Library

Smyrna Library, of the Rutherford County Library System, is accepting applications for a part-time Library Assistant position. The position of Library Assistant is responsible for performing various duties primarily concerning the operation of the Circulation/Information departments within the Rutherford County Library System. This employee has extensive contact with the public. Duties include, but are not limited to: the circulating of library materials, assisting patrons in locating and using needed materials; assisting patrons in accessing and using databases; assisting patrons in using computers and conducting research on the Internet; assisting patrons in locating library materials in various areas of the library; and performing readers advisory services. This is an entry-level position. This position is classified as Non-Exempt for the purpose of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Evenings and weekends may be required.

Qualifications: Must be at least 18 years old. High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent or above.  Prior experience working in a customer service environment preferred. Prior library experience desired.

Bookmobile Driver/Library Assistant - Part Time - Linebaugh Library (2 Positions)

Linebaugh Public Library System is seeking 2 part-time Bookmobile Driver/Library Assistants. This position facilitates the delivery of library materials and information to the various bookmobile stops; provides readers' advisory service to patrons; participates in the daily circulation of library materials to all ages on and off the bookmobile; assists with programming and other outreach efforts; performs annual inventory, maintain shelves, and weeding of the bookmobile collection; maintains the vehicle in good working order by performing daily inspections, scheduling routine maintenance and repairs and refueling the vehicle on a regular basis; keeps accurate records of mileage and maintenance requirements; cleans inside and outside of the vehicle which may include vacuuming, dusting, cleaning windows, and washing exterior. This position also helps in the circulating of books and other library materials; assisting patrons in locating and using needed materials; assisting patrons in accessing and using databases; assisting patrons in using computers and conducting research on the Internet; assisting patrons in locating library materials in various areas of the library; performing daily maintenance of periodicals. This is an entry-level position and is classified as Non-Exempt for the purpose of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Evenings and weekends may be required.

Qualifications: High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent or above. Professional driving experience preferred; must be 21 years of age or older; possess a valid Tennessee Driver’s License with a clean driving record.

Courier Driver - Part Time - Linebaugh Library

Under the direction of the RCLS Linebaugh Branch Manager, the Courier Driver will transport library materials between RCLS branches in a timely and secure manner. The Courier Driver will be loading and unloading trucks, moving, handling, and tracking totes filled with library circulation materials, mail, supplies, and other miscellaneous items. Ability to drive on established routes and follow established laws and safe driving procedures and practices. Inspect vehicle and vehicle equipment, such as mirrors, lights, gas gauge, temperature gauge, tires, turn signals, and brakes in order to ensure that vehicles are in proper working condition. Report any mechanical problems encountered with vehicles. Vehicles are properly cleaned and washed regularly.

Qualifications: High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent or above; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Possess a valid Tennessee Driver’s License with a clean driving record. Scheduling flexibility is required, but a regular schedule of hours, including nights and weekends, with occasional exceptions, is possible. This position is classified as Non-Exempt for the purpose of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
